SecureKernel to Support Japan's Supply Chain Security Assessment Scheme

SecureKernel has announced support for the Supply Chain Security (SCS) assessment scheme being developed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), scheduled to launch in October 2026.

Background

As cyberattacks targeting supply chains continue to rise, the Japanese government has made strengthening supply chain security a national policy priority. Following the enactment of the Economic Security Promotion Act, METI is working toward an October 2026 launch of a scheme that enables organizations to objectively evaluate and document the security posture of their suppliers.

Under the scheme, procuring organizations are expected to assess their suppliers against a defined set of criteria, with results informing procurement decisions and contract terms. The goal is to create a chain of security accountability across entire supply chains.

Challenges Organizations Face

  • Scale: The number of suppliers makes it impractical to assess and maintain evaluations for each one manually
  • Complexity: Mapping SCS requirements to existing frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST CSF, etc.) is time-consuming
  • Continuity: Security assessments are not a one-time exercise — they require ongoing updates as threats and relationships evolve

How SecureKernel Helps

SecureKernel provides the capabilities needed to comply with the SCS scheme from day one:

  • Requirements mapping: Automatically maps SCS criteria to existing frameworks, eliminating duplicated effort
  • Centralized evidence management: All supporting documentation is managed in one place
  • One-click report generation: Produces audit-ready reports for submission
  • Multi-organization support: Manage assessments for group companies and key suppliers from a single platform
